Creators of the Integrity Score

How the Integrity Score works

A star rating tells you how a company made people feel. The Integrity Score tells you what a company has actually put in place. They answer different questions, which is why every profile carries both.

Why a star rating is not enough

Review volume can be bought, and a high average can sit comfortably on top of a business with no insurance, no published terms and no registration anywhere. Reviews are worth reading, but on their own they tell you how people felt, not whether anyone stands behind the promise.

The Integrity Score is deliberately hard to move with volume. It is scored out of 100 against five criteria, and adding reviews on its own will not lift it.

The five criteria

Review rating above 2.5

The one criterion reviews affect. It asks whether people who dealt with this profile came away satisfied, and nothing more.

Indemnity insurance validated

Cover in place, with a policy that can be produced. Where the profile publishes it, the page links straight to the document.

Clear terms agreement published

Terms available on the profile’s own website, so a customer can read what they are agreeing to before they agree to it.

Operational integrity

No reviews claiming the profile failed to honour its own terms. This is the criterion a business loses by behaving badly, not by being small.

Regulatory or association registration

The body the profile is registered with, and its number with that body. Submitted by the profile owner and shown as their declaration — MyProtector does not validate it.

What the colours mean

Green

Most criteria met. There is substance behind the profile and you can see what it is.

Amber

Exercise caution. Some criteria are unmet, and the page shows you which.

Red

High risk. Little or nothing has been verified. Read the criteria before you engage.

What we check and what we do not

Every criterion on a profile shows its own status, and where evidence has been published the page links to it so you can check the claim rather than trust the badge.

Some information is submitted by the profile owner. Where that is the case the page says so, on the row itself, and MyProtector does not present it as verified. Being clear about which is which matters more than making every row look green.

Check a profile before you engage

Search any business, government service or professional and see how far it has actually been verified.
